..with other 40 year olds.
“Some people start at 19, [by] 26 they’re done. He’s 40. He’s better than he’s ever been,” Russell Simmons marveled. “He’s hotter now than ever. I just watch him. He keeps getting better. He never changes with the hustle. He branches out in different areas, opens new doors. He’s an inspiration.”
“It’s 4-0. You just get better,” actress Regina King said. “Forty is the new 30; it’s elegant. He wants everybody to be beautiful [at the party]. So the photographs, when he looks back on it 20 years from now, he’ll say, ‘Look how beautiful we were.’ It’s an opportunity to get pretty and throw on pretty dresses.
“I love the way [Diddy]‘s evolved,” she added. “I’m glad he’s grown up. Whether he likes it or not, he’s still a role model. You can be a good role model or a bad role model. He’s grown up in a lot of people’s eyes. Those kids who want to be like him, they’re gonna pull up their pants and look to be [in multiple businesses] as opposed to just the rapper.”
So do the industry icons who’ve already past this milestone age have advice to give Mr. Combs?
“The great thing is, he has done so much in 40 years. There’s a lot of advice he can give to other people,” Grammy winner Herbie Hancock said. “There’s so much he’s learned. I hope he continues to do that, continues to grow. I see this path he’s set for himself to expand and continue to grow in various directions. That’s a great inspiration to others.”

“It was Jay’s idea,” Thicke said about how Nicki Minaj came to be on “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy.” “We were in the studio, and I played him the whole album. He was like, ‘You should get Nicki Minaj on that. She’s got that voice. She’s got that swag.’ So I leaned over and was like, ‘Somebody get Nicki Minaj on the phone! Jay-Z said so!’ Next thing you know, we called Nicki. She was excited. But once we told her it was Jay-Z’s idea to get her on the track, she started screaming on the phone. She was all excited. She’s a super, super talent. I can’t wait to do a video with Nicki. There’s a power in her. It’s not just that she’s sexy and that’s the only way she can get you to like her. She’s got charm — not just sex. Some women may use sex to get what they want; others have charm. She’s got charm.”
The charm of the Slick Rick/ De la Soul hip-hop vibe on Rob’s “Meiple (Me I Play)” attracted Jay to add one of his golden verses. The Jiggaman also gave Thicke his co-sign on another of the album’s cuts, “Ms. Sex.” The track pays homage to Rakim’s classic “Mahogany,” which sampled Al Green’s “I’m Glad You’re Mine.”
“Her name was Mahogany, her friend’s name was Ebony,” Thicke sings on the track, flipping Rakim’s lyrics. “I said, ‘My name is Rob, and this is Jay-Z.’ “
The singer said Hov loved it. “Before anybody else heard it, Jay-Z heard it, and he said, ‘That’s genius. That’s genius on so many levels.’ He said, ‘First of all, who do you think you are? Who do you think you are, doing Rakim? You got ba–s, boy.’ “
Sex Therapy drops December 15th.
