Well well well, look at what we have here. It’s extremely interesting to see Irv sound off on an issue like this because I would’ve never pegged him as a southern advocate given his tough NYC exterior.
Now don’t get me wrong, Irv is no dummy when it comes to hoisting his said product on his shoulders and making it a household name (DMX, Jay-Z, Geronimo, Ja Rule, Ashanti) but this semi rant comes off as some what bitter because of Ross’ decision to go with the higher power in hip-hop.
Realistically speaking, Irv did help Jay become that household name- that’s a given. But we’re talking about an artist he saw blossom from the ground up. Translation: Artist Development. Taking Rick Ross in his hands probably wouldn’t have turned into much of a success story given the fact that Ross’ demographic and fanbase is COMPLETELY different from Jay brought in.
In regards to him MAKING an artist better than what Jay could do? Yeah, his point is solidified and stamped no doubt about it. History has proven that. But the name itself; Jay-Z, will always be more dominant than Irv Gotti no matter HOW and WHEN you look at it.
Based on the numbers, Ross has roughly sold around 1.5 or 1.6 million albums total with the three projects he’s released so far. But with those albums, Ross’ name is a pillar in southern rap as well as hip-hop overall. And Mr. Carter’s involvement with Ross’ movement had a lot to do with it.
But, the question still remains: What would’ve Irv Gotti done different than The Carter Administration? Care to discuss? O Leh Doooooooo it
