With writing credits on some of this year’s biggest hits it’s not very surprising people would be curious about the powerhouse singer and songwriter that has become a big part Alex Da Kid’s success in 2010. This year Skylar has been credited for penning all three versions of the mega smash “Love The Way You Lie” (even co-producing the piano version on Rihanna’s Loud), Diddy-Dirty Money’s Jay-Z assisted “Coming Home,” Dr. Dre and Eminem’s upcoming “I Need a Doctor,” and  TI & Christina Aguilera’s collaboration “Castle Walls”.

But who is Skylar Grey and where did she come from? Despite signing with Alex Da Kid’s Wonderland Music imprint, it doesn’t take long to figure out that Ms. Grey is intent on keeping her identity a secret, at least for now. She even went so far as to wear a mask, hoodie, and obnoxious glasses in this YouTube video filmed in studio with Avril Lavrine. As it turns out Skylar is known by another name: Holly Brook.   Brook, who’s real name is Holly Hafermann, released her debut album Like Blood Like Honey on Linkin Park’s Machine Shop Recordings label in 2006, though she is best known for her vocal assistance on Fort Minor’s smash hit “Where’d You Go.

Holly is currently nominated for the Song of The Year for Love The Way You Lie, she is credited on Recovery with writing credits as H. Hafermann. The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards airs February 13th, on CBS.

Shout out to Illionaire for sparking the debate and assisting in putting the puzzle pieces together.
