Lex Luger On Working With Kanye: “I Didn’t Want To Fly Out There At First. It Was Coming Too Fast For Me.”

February 17, 2011 |  by  |  INTERVIEWS  |  No Comments  |  Share  |

The good folks over at Complex.com caught up with the man of the hour, Lexus Luger to really find out what’s going on in that crazy little mind of his. Hip-Hop’s “it” boy gets deep about being scared to work with Kanye West, creating Wiz’s “Taylor Gang” back in 2007, producing “H.A.M.”, fighting off the stigma of producing the same sound and having Chingy call him at the airport requesting his sound (random, I know.).

Below, Lex speaks on being quite afraid to venture to NYC to work with one of the best artists hip-hop’s ever seen. And to be honest, I commend young Lexus for taking a step back and not letting the fame overwhelm his surroundings.

“When Kanye [first] called me, he said he wanted to fly me out to New York so I flew out a month later. I didn’t want to fly out there at first. It was coming too fast for me, really. How I go from Milwaukee in the basement to Kanye—one of the biggest artists out right now—wanting my sound, wanting me to do his record? I was scared. But I went down there because it felt like an opportunity. He told me he loved my drums. He said with my drums and his sound, it would go perfectly. And I was ready to do it. But at the same time, I had to work. I felt like I wasn’t on Kanye’s level. I went back and I worked for about six months, I didn’t talk to Kanye or nothing. I called Gee Robinson because me and him cool, I sent him some stuff, I sent Kanye some more stuff, just going back and forth. Me and Kanye are still working. Maybe [I’ll have more songs on Watch The Throne.]

Video: Consequence On Pusha T: “You Got My Record In Your Computer & You Were Supposed To Be On My Joint.”

I really didn’t want to touch this issue because it just seems like….ahh nevermind. The other day Pusha responded to semi shots thrown by Cons after the release of the Hit Boy produced “My God.” Today, we have Consequence breaking down what exactly is bothering him in regards to Pusha stealing a line from a song they were allegedly supposed to collaborate on. Man, can’t this beef shit wait til after Black History Month? Guess not.
