It was some truth in some of the statements but I feel like some of yall thoughts were made because you are uninformed on J. Cole and where his head is. You guys made blanketed statements not knowing where his head is, just basically assuming he wants to be like the rest of the cats out right now, but is failing.
If you followed J. Cole’s career than you would know he doesnt want to the thrown into the spotlight and have the superstar status right away. He has said in repeated interviews that he wants this underdog type rising. Going from overlooked and slept on to being on the top. People like Wiz, Big Sean etc are here for the moment, you cant tell by their musical content. Once the tide turns there gone, their just “hot” right now.
Could Cole use more structure and better execution? Certainly. But I believe alot of what we see is a deliberate attempt to not cross that threshold and maintain that low profile. His game plan however may be a heavy clash with being associated with Jay-Z & Roc Nation, as was stated in the vid. Which in turn creates the thoughts and opinions you guys shared.
The thing I really agree with in the vid is the production tho. Not the handpicking stuff by someone else thing one person suggested, thats just wack. But the getting it in with other producers is a must. Thats been my biggest concern with him. He is very hit or miss and has never really hit an amazing out of the park home run to me on the production tip.
maybe y’all should ask J. Cole himself
You guys are over analyzing shit TOO much. His career is just going awful seeing that he hasn’t even dropped his album yet. I don’t care about the “work out” single. Have you heard lost ones? You can’t judge the man’s work off of one song. I understand he needs to go in with other producers and learn some shit but he is not a bad producer. I know you want him to have songs like big sean that say ass ass ass ass ass ass with nothing behind it. No lyrics, just tight beats. That’s what you want lowkey.
Damn, it sucks to have ppl blogging about why you AREN’T poppin!! I like J. Cole but they are pretty much right about everything.
J.Cole is doing his thing. He’s on the road touring his album is done he just got a release date and just dropped his first single. It’s a process people he gotta do a video and some press stuff probaly drop another single and video before the album even come out.So he’s on the right path i think people is so caught up in this microwave environment that they want everything instantly let the dude cook up the proper meal everything is not gonna be done in a over night fashion especially if it’s being done the right way.
I can’t take this guy with the dreads seriously…like really? is he cutting his own hair with no mirror. But anyway back to what this post is about, I think Cole was kind of thrust into the lime light without a buzz like Drake, Big Sean or Wiz. Think about how long Drake, Wiz and Big Sean were griding prior to reaching the level they are at.
the nigga sucks. period. yall nigas lame for even talkin for 8min about that cornball
Ya some of it made sense to me but most of it seemed to be making too much out of nothin, Is there really any doubt that the LP will be crazy? So Work Out wasn’t the greatest. Neither was the original sample. Are Lost Ones and Cheer Up not some of the best records anyone has made in years? The LP will be fire and I’m not worries in the slightest.
