Drake: “I Don’t Want To Be As Good As Kanye, I Want To Be Better.”

With Sherbert getting comfortable in his own lane, it’s about that time Mr. Graham starts shooting for the stars, literally. In the Power 30 Issue of The Source Magazine, the man of the hour tells Kim Osorio while he admires the talents and success of Kanye West, he’s looking to surpass everything and anything the Louis Vuitton Don has accomplished.

“It’s an honor,” Drake says of the Kanye comparisons. “When I was a kid trying to figure out what I liked, it was ‘Ye who I related to the most. He was an artist, in every sense, from his cover art to his music. Now, I would say, he is really great,” Drake pauses, choosing his carefully, “competitor…and friend, at the same time.” He continues, “My goal is to surpass everything he’s accomplished. I don’t want to be as good as Kanye, I want to be better.”

The Power 30 issue and Take Care arrive November 15th.

  1. I can’t see it happening, especially based on the two mediocre albums he’s dropped. College Dropout was Graduation are CLASSICs, Late Registration and MBDTF are a solid albums, and even 808s & Heartbreak is an good listen, especially if you understand his life at the time.
No one will look back at Thank Me Later or Take Care and say that. So, he’s already 2 behind. Does the fact he doesn’t rap AND produce also limit him? I think so, because Ye has produced some of the classics that are on his albums, as well as hits for others. I know as a competitor Drake has to say these things, but “come on man”!
    He’s more of a 2nd or 3rd tier artist, he’s not elite.

    • Cosign on everything you said… But Drake would have sounded like a herb if he didn’t say he wanted to be better. It would be like, why the fuck you doing this then!!!
