Last night at the Heinken Inspire Event in NYC, Nigel D from RealTalkNY caught up with J. Cole where he discusses his thoughts on Roc Nation’s latest signee and his brand new Friday Night Lights mixtape.
The argument on both sides of the table stand correct for Wiz’s reasoning as to why he should be on the list and why he shouldn’t. On one hand, his grass roots movement/campaign has been trucking through the streets little by little bobbing and weaving through naysayers (including myself) of all kinds. Wiz’s touring abilities have already made his brand a household name, to some degree. But like Jayson explained, Mr. Khalifa is still lacking THAT record that people can pinpoint and say “Hey DJ, you got that new Wiz joint?” And let’s not forget Wiz’s placement as the number one Breakthrough MC of 2010. That within itself is an accomplishment every new artist would love to have under his/her belt.

Jay said he personally chose each of the songs featured in “Decoded” for several reasons, and “PSA” made the tome because of its unique origin. Bars from the second verse of the Just Blaze-helmed track were penned after a journalist interpreted the symbolism she picked out in one of Jay’s outfits. However, Hov thought the scribe’s analysis of his look was a bit of a reach.
“The second verse of ‘PSA’ may not have that many hidden jewels in [it], but the story behind why I wrote the second verse is pretty interesting. It’s sort of that look on rap, how this writer had written this article about me wearing this Che Guevara shirt [with a] Jesus piece, and she was like, ‘The Jesus piece is hitting his hand,’ and I was like, ‘You’re going a little too far. It’s a T-shirt and a chain. It’s not literally hitting his forehead,’ ” he recalled. “That [experience] inspired the entire verse. ‘I’m like Che Guevara with bling on, I’m complex.’ It’s the whole entire story of how and why I came to write that second verse on ‘PSA.’ “

Willow Smith appeared on DJ Envy’s radio show over at Power 105 earlier today to discuss how and why she started her music career. Envy asks her about the pressures of recording and how it became a rush to record material after she got her deal with Roc Nation. Willow breaks down, VERY PROFESSIONALLY, the concept of “Whip My Hair.” Uh oh, Willow has her eyes set on a Lady Gaga collaboration. She breaks down her style as well.
