Everything about this record just screams out dope. From sampling a Biggie line to rapping over Dr. Dre’s classic “Keep Their Heads Ringing” instrumental. That’s without even mentioning Joell’s flow. I love when a old sample is used in the right way. Ted Smooth’s “Retox” drops on January 6th. Expect more new verses over some classic beats and some samples chucked in there for good measure to.
I doubt you needed reminding of how good Joell’s freestyle game is. Well, a few days ago The Puerto Rican performed live at the Paradise Theater, during his set he rocked an accapella freestyle to his track “Battle Cry”. Pretty nice. The original is my jawn still, after a year of it being on repeat. Anyway, let me take you down memory lane, anyone remember this freestyle from last year? My lord, somebody help us all. *Ja Rule voice*.
With the heat these boys brought to the BET awards with the Shady 2.0 cypher it’s safe to say their not playing around when it comes to the title of this new joint, The Illest. Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Crooked I and Royce da 5’9 live up to their name by slaughtering it. Sophomore album on it’s way.

I can’t remember what verses were recorded then, but I do remember him saying it was something for Em and I do remember the Steve Carrell sample from the movie “Ron Burgandy.” Hell: The Sequel hits June 14th.
